On the Insights team at LinkedIn we have the incredible opportunity to work with a rich set of professional data shared by our 200 million+ members. In honor of Valentine’s Day, I used my data wrangling skills to find out just where professionals who love their work live.
It was an innocent and seemingly nominal change: The day before I came on board as Head of Global Employment Brand at LinkedIn, I asked to switch my title. Let’s replace “Employment “with “Talent”. I didn’t think of it as a big deal – the HR team here is called the Talent Team, my boss is Head of Global Talent Acquisition, so why not be Head of Global Talent Brand? I didn’t realize that this small change in wording would come to symbolize such a significant shift in perspective.
From one to many
Take it from someone who’s been there in the not-too-distant past: it may not take much to get your ideal passive candidate talking about a career switch. Consider me Exhibit A. I wasn’t looking before I joined the LinkedIn team, but once approached, I was intrigued by the pitch…and the rest is history.
We already know that top talent is 56 percent more likely to care about finding the right culture, and it stands to reason that presenting a relevant opportunity is table stakes – but if you meet those criteria, and offer the chance to make an impact while doing challenging work, you’re in with a legitimate shot.
