Chicago is fast becoming a hub for tech companies: according to Built In Chicago, 193 digital tech startups launched in Chicago in 2011. Table XI is a ten-year-old digital consultancy that builds web and mobile apps in Chicago, and we love this trend. But it also creates a challenge, at least for development shops like us—while our industry may be booming, there’s a shortage of high-quality talent. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that software development-related roles and jobs will increase at double the national average through 2020. But Manpower Group’s annual Talent Shortage Survey ranks IT third among industries with unfilled jobs.

LinkedIn has offered creative solutions to nonprofits using LinkedIn for staff recruiting since May of 2011.  As the initiator of LinkedIn’s Nonprofit Solutions, I’ve spent the past year and a half traveling the world helping nonprofit HR and talent acquisition teams get more proactive in their recruiting efforts. LinkedIn Nonprofit Solutions is now helping over 150 nonprofits that have staff recruiting needs deepen their talent pipelines, reduce time to fill, lift candidate quality, and enhance their employer brands.  It’s been exciting to see more and more nonprofits benefiting from our program.

At Talent Connect in October, many nonprofits gathered to share their challenges and tips. During a session on “Recruiting in the Nonprofit Sector,” DotPowerOrg founder Larry Eason facilitated an interactive session where he not only asked questions of the panel, but also invited audience members to come up and tell their stories.  You can watch the video here:

Status update blitz drives 60 percent increase in sales team referrals

Many organizations recognize that their employees are a vital source of strong hires.  So when salesforce.com needed to hire hundreds of account executives and sales engineers, it made perfect sense for the company to turn inward and leverage its own employees.  CEO Marc Benioff emailed his sales team with a simple request – Get the word out via your networks.
