Talent leadership

ConnectIn Singapore: Why Talent Matters Across Asia

My first management role was to lead an Asia Pacific team out of Tokyo – that was over  a decade ago.  Since then, I have learned that recruiting, hiring, onboarding and retaining talent in the right jobs is not only important for business success, but also for job satisfaction and work life balance. When I invested time upfront to build the right team, it made life so much easier. Plus, it is so much more fun to come to work when you have a high performing, highly motivated team, isn’t it?

We all know that good talent in the right roles has the power to transform companies, build phenomenal products and delight customers. If a strong business brand is the engine for your business, good talent is the fuel that powers that engine. Your brand value proposition is a promise. Your talent delivers on that promise.

Indra Nooyi, CEO of PepsiCo, explains: “Today’s marketplace is incredibly competitive in every industry around the globe. The difference between success and failure is talent, period.”

With all this in mind, I am excited to host LinkedIn’s annual premier pan-Asian Talent Solutions conference, ConnectIn, in Singapore on August 13th. The theme of the conference is Talent Matters.

ConnectIn will bring together HR and talent acquisition professionals from all over Asia to talk about how they are creating great employer brands and building self-sustaining talent engines. We have an action packed day with inspirational keynotes and presentations from HR and talent acquisition leaders from across Asia, who are creating and executing successful strategies for talent attraction, engagement and retention.

Since the theme of our event is Talent Matters, we asked our great lineup of speakers – Why does talent matter? Here is what they had to say:

andy“People are the core of any company, they create the culture, they drive success or failure they can be the greatest asset you will ever have access to. Get the right people and build an environment that brings the most out of them and you can change the world. “

Andy Ridley, CEO & Co-Founder, Earth Hour Global

“Persons with disabilities have talent too. Open your mind and heart to them and you will be surprised with what you will find.”

Keh Eng Song, CEO, Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore

DBS-bank“At DBS, we believe that people are at the heart of banking and we aim to be the “university of talent” within the banking and financial services industry.”

Theresa Phua, Managing Director, DBS Bank

rakuten"For me, one of the key factors in building and driving a successful business is people. To find the right people with the right skills and empower them to strive to contribute to the business are of paramount importance."

Dawn Wong, HR Manager, Rakuten Asia

As I stated in the beginning of this post, my core belief is that one the key factor in building and driving a successful department, region or business is people. To find the right people with the right skills and place them in the right jobs is not only a helpful skill in today’s market, it is a necessity. Spend the day with LinkedIn to figure out how you can help your business make talent matter. I look forward to seeing you on August 13th!
