Countries Where Passive Candidates are Most Receptive to Recruiters [MAP]
As part of our Talent Trends 2014 report, we asked professionals across 26 countries about their jobseeking status – are they actively looking, completely satisfied with their current jobs, or somewhere in the middle.
It turns out that the majority are in the middle. On average, 60% of respondents globally said that while not looking, they are at a stage where they are either open to talking to a recruiter or starting to lightly reach out to their close network. Other 25% are actively seeking and only 15% are not looking.
With the global number at 60%, we were curious to see if professionals in particular countries are way more open to opportunities and to engaging with recruiters – “approachable”, if you will. The answer of course was a definite “yes.”
See the map below for how the incidence of approachable passive candidates varies country-by-country:

And a closer view of Europe:
And a close up of Asia-Pacific:
The countries where candidates are most open to chatting with recruiters are:
- Sweden – 71%
- Finland – 68%
- China – 67%
- Russia – 67%
- Norway – 67%
- Spain – 65%
On the other hand, there are a few countries that are noticeably below the global average of 60% and where candidates are more hesitant to talk to recruiters:
- United Arab Emirates – 45%
- India – 45%
- South Africa – 52%
- Turkey – 53%%
- UK -- 54%
Despite the variance between the top and bottom outliers, it’s clear that huge numbers of professionals welcome direct contact and are willing to explore opportunities to advance their career.
In order to be relevant and engage these professionals, you should tailor your pitch and make sure to bring up points that they would truly care about – be it opportunities for advancement, learning opportunities, or compensation.
